The Horton Company is a manufacturer of electrically operated fluid control valves. Originating in the 1930's in Pittsburgh's historic Strip District, Horton first manufactured and sold washing machines. The company soon shifted its product line to replacement water valves for residential and commercial washing machines, dishwashers and icemakers. The "new" Horton Company was born in 1989 when it was acquired by Roy Gavert and Roy Wennerholm. Roy Gavert is a former Executive Vice President of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Roy Wennerholm is the former Chairman and CEO of Joy Technologies, Inc. In 1996, Horton relocated to a larger and more modern site of over 25,000 sq. ft. This facility allows Horton room for expansion as its customer base continues to grow. Under the direction of the new owners, The Horton Company has evolved into a 21st century supplier, focusing on Quality and Customer Satisfaction, with innovative products that are technologically compliant. Horton's aftermarket replacement water valves are sold to appliance service men and women through an established network of more than 350 companies, with nearly 1,000 locations throughout the United States. The product line continues to expand, and currently cross references to over 2,500 OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) numbers and more than 10,000 appliance model numbers. While The Horton Company continues to be a valuable source of residential and commercial appliance aftermarket water valves, sales to Original Equipment Manufacturers grew from 36% of total sales in 1996 to 56% in 2001. This market includes commercial ice machines, various types of fluid dispensers, vending and brewing equipment, car washes, medical applications, photo developing, agricultural applications, and many others. Horton carries two quiet valve design patents, and one patent on a unique normally open 3-way valve. Most valve types are UL recognized, and are assembled with components that pass NSF standards. All OEM valves are made in the USA, and are shipped within a designated delivery schedule. Horton offers design flexibility, along with many options related to coil voltage, flow rate, mounting variation and inlet/outlet size and type. |
